Unforeseen Beauty - Jules Miranda at MoonLab 42

  • MoonLab 42 405 West 145th Street New York, NY, 10031 United States (map)

From April 29th to May 6th we hosted an exhibition featuring the works of Washington Heights-based Puerto Rican photographer Jules Miranda who is the author of your favorite Female on Film zine and the cat calendars 🐈‍⬛

Jules presented a collection named Unforeseen Beauty which will consist of ten photographs that came out of the serendipitous incidents of her process. The images were a result of happy accidents, mistakes with exposure, and unexpected candid moments. The photographs showcase the beauty that can be found in the unplanned.

About Jules Miranda:

Jules is a self-taught Puerto Rican analog photographer based in NYC. Her background in dance, theatre, and music gave her a deep appreciation for performing and visual arts. Over the past three years since Jules started establishing herself as a freelance photographer, she has been specializing in portraits, weddings, events, and concerts.

The artist finds the most gratifying aspect of photography in helping people who believe they are unphotogenic to overcome their doubts. In 2022 Jules released a zine called “Female on Film” where her intimate portraits of femme-identifying people were accompanied by the subjects’ confessional writings on their relationships with their bodies. Profits from the zine are donated to “Fo’s Feminista” - an international Planned Parenthood.

Today, Jules lives in Washington Heights with her two cats Freddie and Lashonda, and keeps experimenting with her cameras.
